Water is legitimately our favorite background! It just works so perfectly for portrait photography, especially during the summer.
While we always talk about needing the perfect lighting, we let the light be a little too much in this picture on purpose. Over-exposure is not a common practice in portrait photography as it can lead to the actual focus of the photo to be… well… less of the focus. However, this photo was just too pretty to mess with the lighting.
Now, most of the time we talk solely about the actual photo. But in this post it is important to address the editing. In this photo it is clearly edited a lot. The left side was completely separated from the right side. Then we completely edited the color to be a darker and bluer filter. With the left side we left the brightness pretty high and then just tinted the sky to be a bit more orange and yellow. However, when we did all this we had to mask out the model so that she was not affected by any of the edits. It took a lot of work but it was definitely worth it.
Also, shout out to one of the best models we have ever met! She just knows how to pose and she also just happens to be the most photogenic person ever! Definitely going to be working with her more this summer. If you would like to see more of this model check out our Instagram @rosecitydm.
